NTT DoCoMo to Maintain Presence in 2G
December 29, 2005
The Nihon Keizai Shimbun recently reported that NTT DoCoMo has decided to launch two new 2G mobile phones in the beginning of 2006 in Japan. The company originally planned to completely phase out 2G handsets and services to become a 100% 3G operator, but as its 3G FOMA network has not yet achieved full coverage for the whole of Japan, it is afraid it will lose customers to other operators. The report stated that the new phones will be produced by NEC and Panasonic.
